SPH Student Award Winners!

We are once again very pleased and proud to celebrate our award winning students here at SPH, five of whom took home honours in two different events! Congratulations to all of you!

 Congratulations to our award winning students.  Our first group of award winners took home honours from the 2024 Life & Health Sciences Research Expo, held on May 2nd, 2024 in the D-Wing Atrium of the Health Sciences Building.  The Life & Health Sciences Research Expo acknowledges exemplary research and learning activity at the University of Saskatchewan and is an annual showcase of the interdisciplinary health science research taking place on campus and throughout the province.  Our award winning students and their supervisors are:

Social & Population Health 2 First place: Jing Wang, School of Public Health Supervisor: Li Xing, College of Arts & Science

Translational, Clinical, or Applied Science 3 Second place: Naga Suresh Kola, School of Public Health Supervisor: Aneesh Thakur, College of Medicine

Indigenous Health Research Recipient: Katie Tolley, School of Public Health Supervisor: Amanda Froehlich-Chow, School of Public Health

 

The CNS attendeesNext, this past weekend (May 2 - 4) seven graduate students from the Vatanparast Nutritional Epidemiology Lab attended the Canadian Nutritional Society Annual Conference in Edmonton Alberta.  The CNS Annual Conference is a forum for the presentation of scientific research spanning basic, regulatory/policy, clinical and community nutrition research. It offers an exceptional learning environment and brings together a range of expertise, including food and nutrition researchers, healthcare professionals, opinion leaders, industry representatives, government officials, and future leaders. Our two award winners from SPH, both supervised by Dr. Hassan Vatanparast, are:

Razieh Mohammadkhani, who was a Finalist in Poster Category with her poster "Movement to Affordable and Healthy Food Environments in Saskatchewan's Publicly Funded Recreational Facilities."

 

 

 

 

Samy at CNSSamy Abdullah, who won a Third Place award in the Oral Presentation Category for his presentation "Shifting towards local empowerment:  the success of an alternative therapeutic food product to treat acute malnutrition in El Salvador"
