Congratulations Jaclyn Edwards
This past summer, six Masters of Public Health students participated in the project "Examining the Relationship Between Lifestyle, Mental Health, and Economic Factors and Type 2 Diabetes in Barbados and Jamaica: A Mixed-Methods Study on the Determinants of Disease Management and Prevention”. This project was facilitated by the Vatanparast Nutritional Epidemiology Lab and funded through the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Scholarship. This past October, Jaclyn Edwards, one of those six students, won second prize at the PAW (People Around the World) International Congress Poster Competition for her poster "Investigating the Impact of Socioeconomic Factors and Type 2 Diabetes in Barbados: A Mixed-Methods Study on Management and Prevention of Type 2 Diabetes".

This summer, Jaclyn Edwards was one of six successful Masters of Public Health (MPH) student applicants for the project "Examining the Relationship Between Lifestyle, Mental Health, and Economic Factors and Type 2 Diabetes in Barbados and Jamaica: A Mixed-Methods Study on the Determinants of Disease Management and Prevention”. This project is facilitated by the Vatanparast Nutritional Epidemiology Lab here at the University of Saskatchewan, graciously funded by the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Scholarship, and has provided many rewarding practicum and research opportunities for School of Public Health students. For her practicum, Jaclyn's project and subsequent poster was "Investigating the Impact of Socioeconomic Factors and Type 2 Diabetes in Barbados: A Mixed-Methods Study on Management and Prevention of Type 2 Diabetes". During the course of her project, Jaclyn worked with the staff of the Maria Holder Diabetes Centre for the Caribbean to collect primary data about those socioeconomic factors from patients of the center. This past October, her poster won second prize at the People Around the World (PAW) International Congress poster competition. The theme of the PAW 2024 Congress was using data to explore the food-energy-water nexus, a nexus described by the UN Water website as being crucial to sustainable development. Congratulations Jaclyn, both for successful completion of your practicum and for your success in disseminating your data-driven research to a wide-ranging audience!
