Congratulations Demi!

On June 29th, 2023, Demi successfully defended their MPH thesis entitled “Prenatal Healthcare Among Immigrant Mothers in Canada: An Exploration of Barriers to Adequate and Culturally Competent Care.” Well done!

Demi Ogunrinde is a compassionate and driven nurse whose journey from Nigeria to Canada in her early teens has shaped her into a dedicated healthcare professional with a passion for making a difference in the lives of others.

Demi’s immigration experience sparked her interest in healthcare, as she witnessed firsthand the challenges newcomers face in accessing quality medical services. Demi successfully earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Saskatchewan. However, her thirst for knowledge and eagerness to address immigrants' unique healthcare needs drove her to pursue further education. She enrolled in a Master's in Public Health program, specializing in community health and epidemiology. Her research thesis focused on prenatal health among immigrants, shedding light on the barriers faced by this vulnerable population and proposing strategies to enhance maternal care and well-being.

With her extensive nursing experience and public health background, Demi remains steadfast in her dedication to promoting health equity among immigrant communities. She firmly believes that access to quality healthcare is a fundamental right for all, regardless of background or origin.
