Congratulations to Nazeem Muhajarine (Community Health and Epidemiology, USask), Khrisha Alphonsus (School of Public Health, USask), Rajendra Surenthirakumaran (Dean of Medicine, U of Jaffna, Sri Lanka), Pethirupillai Coonghe (Community and Family Medicine, U of Jaffna), and Ruben Rajakumar (Medicine, retired, USask) on their successful grant application for the project, "Developing an International Research Partnership from the Ground Up: Health Needs Assessment and a Demonstration Project in Northern and Eastern Provinces, Sri Lanka."

The team received $25,000 from the USask Global Innovation Fund to conduct a comprehensive health needs assessment in Jaffna, Sri Lanka. The project aims to address the urgent needs of women and young girls in a minority-dominant region of Sri Lanka and establish a foundation for relevant research and training initiatives between the two universities.

The collaboration between USask and U of Jaffna will facilitate community-based, policy-relevant research and dissemination. This project is the first step towards future collaborative initiatives focused on women's and girls' health in Northern and Eastern Sri Lanka.
