Congratulations to Michele Monroy-Valle as the recipient of the 2024 GSA Research Excellence in STEM: Medical Science and Public Health Award

The School of Public Health is pleased and proud to once again recognize Michele for her outstanding achievement in research at USASK! 

 Michele Monroy-Valle earned her Nutrition Degree, Master's in Public Health, and Master's in University Teaching in her home country, Guatemala. As an Assistant Professor at the Universidad de San Carlos of Guatemala, Michele established herself as a knowledgeable and passionate researcher and educator.

Her journey led her to Canada, where she came as a Queen Elizabeth II Advanced Scholar at the University of Saskatchewan. Michele's selection for this prestigious program was a testament to her outstanding research, training, and educational accomplishments, particularly in maternal, infant, and child health and food security.

While pursuing a Ph.D. at the USask's School of Public Health in 2020, Michele received the Global Research Leadership Award for Students in 2022, showcasing her commitment to global health initiatives. In 2022, she earned the Image of Research People's Choice award and in 2023, the 3MT People's Choice award, highlighting her ability to communicate complex concepts effectively.

Michele Monroy-Valle's passion lies in implementation science, specifically within women's, infants, and children's health (WIC) and the Developmental Origins of Health and Disease (DOHaD). She looks forward to contributing her skills and insights to initiatives to improve these vulnerable populations' well-being.
