Congratulations Dr. Masud Rana!

On November 1st, 2023, Masud successfully defended his PhD dissertation in the Collaborative Biostatistics program. His dissertation is entitled “Obesity Risk Estimation Accounting Spatial Dependency, Error in Covariate Measurement, and Factors Operating at Multiple Levels” Well done!

By Tyson Brown

Masud’s PhD dissertation developed statistical methodologies for integrating spatial autocorrelation, covariate measurement error, and factors operating at multiple levels for disease mapping. The first part of Masud’s PhD dissertation has already been published in the book Applied Statistics and Data Science: Proceedings of Statistics 2021 Canada, Selected Contributions (https://link.springer.com/chapter/10.1007/978-3-030-86133-9_3). Masud received the “2023 Best Social & Population Health Paper Award” from the University of Saskatchewan for this publication. Masud also published two other preprints from his PhD dissertation: Covariate Measurement Error in Spatial Analysis of Count Data (https://www.researchsquare.com/article/rs-3386360/v1) and A Joint Model for Disease Mapping with Spatially Correlated Count Data and Covariate Measurement Error (https://www.researchsquare.com/article/rs-3406042/v1). Masud is a Senior Biostatistician at IQVIA, a renowned clinical research organization. Prior to moving to IQVIA, Masud worked as a Biostatistician at the University of British Columbia and the University of Saskatchewan.
