A multidisciplinary USASK research team 's critical review paper "How does climate change affect biomass production and rural poverty?" has been published in the current edition of the Biofuel Research Journal.

Against the backdrop of the COP28 United Nations Climate Change Conference, this scholarly article is a timely reminder of the complex web of relationships between global energy needs, climate change, and poverty as a social determinate of health, focused through the lense of biomass as a current and developing energy source.

Led by Dr. Hassan Vatanparast (Professor at the School of Public Health and College of Pharmacy and Nutrition), authors Mojtaba Shafiee (College of Pharmacy and Nutrition), Zoe Longworth (College of Pharmacy and Nutrition) and Zemichael Gizaw (Department of Geography and Planning) present a nuanced and detailed review of the biomass landscpe, both its current challenges and the promise it holds for our future.  Read the full article in the Biofuel Research Journal, and see the video abstract for the article below.  The Biofuel Research journal has an impact factor of 13, #1/184 in "Environmental Engineering";  #1/120 in "Waste Management and Disposal.
